...This land is now in grave danger. Pornography is now the largest business in America, leading to the highest rate of divorce ever. Abortion is one of the most demanded medical procedures, ending the lives of millions of children yearly. Not surprisingly, church attendance is alarmingly low. Forces of darkness seem to be eroding the foundation of morality and are attempting to erase the cross from our history books and public square.
Welcome to the official website of The Assembly 2007 national prayer event. We are glad you visited and invite you to check back frequently for updates and news about this historic event.
We are thrilled to serve you in organizing this national call to prayer that commemorates the four hundred year anniversary of the first landing and planting of the cross in Virginia Beach! It is my sincere hope that you catch the vision that has inspired so many to respond in faith to believe that God can and will raise up our nation again to restore her to victory and favor!
When I first heard this dream of rededicating America to God, I could not help but respond knowing that there was something different about this event-something special. This calling seemed to resonate with that certain sound of destiny that was unmistakable. I never dreamed I was embarking on a journey that would unveil secrets of our American past both tragic and glorious that would reveal God's divine purpose laid in the very foundation of our birth.
Generally, people underestimate the power of prayer. From our inception we have been a nation centered on prayer to God in the name of Jesus Christ! On April 29th 1607, the first English settlers landed at a sandy cape in Virginia Beach, Virginia. After three days of prayer and fasting, the Virginia Company chaplain, Robert Hunt, lead the party in their first official act. They dragged a large wooden cross through the sand and planted it in the ground gathering around to pray. Making covenant with Almighty God, the Christian colonists dedicated the New World to the glory of God and the spread of the Gospel of Jesus Christ worldwide.
There a new nation was born. Her commission was from God. Since that day, America has sent and sponsored more missionaries to other nations then any other country in the history of the world. However, the need for national prayer was essential to overcoming disaster, adversity, and moral misdirection.
In 1776 the time came to create an autonomous nation. So the Christian people of this land cried-out to God in prayer, and God shed His grace upon America to win the Revolutionary War, gaining victory over Great Britain, the greatest superpower the world had ever known.
By the mid-1800’s, slavery demoralized a nation built on freedom, and threatened to rip the country right down the middle. Again, Christian people cried-out to God for righteousness, and God answered and removed the deplorable practice of slavery from every state.
In the 1940s, nearly the entire world was at war. This global conflict threatened to destroy America on her own shores, and exterminate the Jewish population in Europe. But again, the Christian people of this land cried-out to God for deliverance, and God answered by giving America and the Allies miraculous conquests and ultimate victory!
Throughout these times of testings and trial, God has also blessed this land with glorious spiritual awakenings. The Great Awakening of the mid-1700s saw the powerful preaching of ministers such as Jonathan Edwards and George Whitfield that restored spiritiual fervor.
The Second Awakening of the late 1700s birthed widespread college campmeeting revivals that reversed trends of spiritual coldness and moral decline. The missions movements and the evangelistic revivals of the 1800’s included unprecedented missionary work and revivalist preachers such as Dwight L. Moody.
The Pentecostal and evangelistic revitalizations of the 1900s produced the amazing Azusa Street Revival, and the powerful evangelist Billy Graham. Every major awakening and revival has been preceded with powerful prayer movements. Prayer has been America's secret to success!
God has not forgotten the four hundred year old covenant with America. He has honored the commission of this land by preserving this nation, and giving her spiritual light that overflows to the rest of the world, just as Reverend Hunt prayed for on the shores of Virginia Beach.
However, this land is now in grave danger.
However, there is still hope for a righteous America. The Christian people of this land are again rising up to cry-out to God for deliverance from the immorality and spiritual decline that permeates the fabric of American culture. They are praying for a spiritual renewal. Soon, we will pray to rededicate this land to God. We will pray for another Great Awakening. It's time for the church in America to wake up and shake herself and stand for God and righteousness once again.
How about you? Are you hungry to see revival? Do you want to see America healed and restored to greatness and become a beacon of light and hope for the rest of the world once again? I am inviting you to join us in prayer on April 29th and be a part of renewing the covenant with God and lift up Jesus Christ as the Lord of Lords and King of Kings of America in Virginia Beach. I hope to see you there! God bless you and REMEMBER to register online today for the CONSECRATION CONFERENCE and DEDICATION SUNDAY and order your CROSS to plant in your yard and start praying for America today!
